Dated and posted December 5, 2016, this order amends Executive Order 13112 of 1999. It is fairly lengthy with a number of parts updating various aspects of the previous order including specific attention to concerns regarding public health as well as recognition of the impact of climate change on invasive species.
The National Invasive Species Council, established by the first order, is expanded in membership by this action. With a nod to at least some accountability, Section 5 (a) states “By December 31, 2019, the Council shall publish a National Invasive Species Council Management Plan (Management Plan), which shall, among other priorities identified by the Council, include actions to further the implementation of the duties of the National Invasive Species Council.”
This is another important initiative that is worthy of some future attention.
