Positive Actions by the Government of Sudan

An executive order with an accompanying letter declare the government of Sudan has made enough progress to lift some sanctions applied in 1997 and 2006. Quoting from the order:

“These actions include a marked reduction in offensive military activity, culminating in a pledge to maintain a cessation of hostilities in conflict areas in Sudan, and steps toward the improvement of humanitarian access throughout Sudan, as well as cooperation with the United States on addressing regional conflicts and the threat of terrorism.”

The letter is to the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate as required by law when such sanctions are implemented or removed.
